Taylor's University, Malaysia: What International Applicants Need to Know

Taylor's University is a private Malaysian university on the Lakeside Campus in Subang Jaya, Selangor, next to Kuala Lumpur. It grew out of Taylor's College, which dates back to 1969, and it is a Malaysian institution in its own right, not a branch of a foreign university. In the QS World University Rankings it is placed #272.
It suits students who want a ranked private university, three intakes a year and dual awards with UK, Australian or New Zealand partners. It suits you less if your budget is tight, if you are counting on a scholarship, or if you plan to study medicine and then practice in India.

The figures below come from Taylor's current fee schedules for international students. Next year's price list is not published yet, so expect possible indexation. Fees are charged in ringgit (RM). The "total" column adds the international student fees and the 6% Service Tax (SST) that private universities charge non-Malaysians.

What the total includes
- One-time fees: International Student Enrolment Fee RM 2,800 (non-refundable), International Student Charge RM 3,000, and a refundable International Security Deposit of RM 3,000.
- Annual fees: International Student Annual Fee RM 2,500 per year and hospitalization insurance of RM 644.
- Visa package collected by the university ("EMGS Visa Application Fee & E-Val"): RM 2,280 for Foundation and MBA, RM 2,920 for a 3-year bachelor's, RM 3,240 for 4 years, RM 3,560 for MBBS.
Dollar amounts in Taylor's schedules use RM 3.80 per dollar; the market rate is around RM 4.05–4.10, so plan for the difference. The fee schedules list no separate application fee. Programs and the degree you receive
Taylor's teaches Foundation, Diploma (for example, Culinary and Hotel Management), an American Degree Transfer Program, bachelor's, master's (MBA, Master of Management, Applied Computing, Clinical Psychology and others) and PhD. Its main fields are Hospitality and Tourism, Culinary Arts, Business and Accounting, Computer Science, Architecture and Design, Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, Law and Media.
Foundation is run by Taylor's College, a separate institution in the same group. You move to the university only if you meet your degree program's entry requirements.
Some programs are dual awards, with documents from two universities:
- Computer Science — with UWE Bristol (UK): certificates and transcripts from both. Data Science, Cyber Security, Mobile Computing and AI specializations are dual award.
- Business — with UWE (Bristol Business School) and QUT (Australia).

Admission requirements for international students
Taylor's publishes exact grade thresholds only for some school systems. Here is the process step by step.
How to apply to Taylor's University

Check your grades. For a bachelor's degree: A Level from DD; IB from 24 points (Computer Science) or 26 (Accounting); AUSMAT ATAR 55–60; other Year 12 certificates with a CGPA of at least 2.50 (Accounting), or any qualification the Malaysian Government recognizes as equivalent. For Indian students, Taylor's says Class 12 graduates can usually enter a bachelor's directly with 65–95% in at least two subjects, depending on the program. For Pakistan (FSc/HSSC), Nigeria (WAEC), Bangladesh (HSC) and Egypt, we check your certificate against the program with the admissions team. If your certificate does not qualify directly, Foundation takes O Level with 5 credits or an equivalent.

Check your English. Computer Science needs IELTS 5.5; Accounting and Finance IELTS 5.0 or MUET 3.5; MBBS IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 60. Foundation needs IELTS 4.0 or TOEFL iBT 31, or Year 11 taught in English. You may be exempt if your pre-university study or diploma was in English. Without the required score, you can take Intensive English: RM 4,660 per 12-week level, intakes in January, May and September.

Prepare documents from O Level upward, with official English translations. Malaysia is not part of the Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone does not help: universities ask for certified true copies. For the visa you also need a passport valid for at least 18 months, a 35×45 mm photo on a white background and a health declaration form.

What to know before you apply
MBBS is not a route to practicing in India or Malaysia. Taylor's states that house officer (internship) positions in Malaysia are closed to international students, and that India's NMC requirements are currently not possible to meet in Malaysia. If you plan to practice at home, check your national medical regulator's rules before paying; we help you compare medical programs that fit your plan.
Scholarships are practically closed to outside applicants. Taylor's scholarships, including the 50% and 70% Merit Scholarship, are for Malaysians and for international students progressing within Taylor's Education Group. Plan your budget on the full fee.
Refunds are limited. The enrolment fee and International Student Charge are never refunded. If you withdraw before the semester starts, you get a refund minus RM 500; from the third week of the semester, nothing is refunded. Late payment costs RM 100 per week.
Post-study work depends on your passport. Malaysia's 12-month Graduate Pass is open to citizens of 32 countries, including India and the GCC states, but not Pakistan, Nigeria, Egypt or Bangladesh. The UK Graduate Route is also not available after a 3+0 dual award, because it requires at least 12 months of study in the UK.
Part-time work is restricted. Students can work up to 20 hours a week only during breaks longer than 7 days, with immigration approval.
Rankings and accreditation
Taylor's is ranked #272 in the QS World University Rankings, down from #253 in the previous edition. It is #27 in QS Asia.
In QS by Subject, 20 of its subjects are ranked. Hospitality and Leisure Management is #26 in the world; Art and Design and Marketing are in the top 100; Accounting and Finance is in the top 200.
In 2025 Taylor's received Self-Accreditation Status from the MQA; medicine, pharmacy and other professional programs stay under their professional regulators.

Upfront payment covers the deposit, stamp duty and six months of rent: for example, RM 13,792 for a twin room in U Residence or RM 11,070 for a twin in Waterfront. On top of rent, a student in the Kuala Lumpur area usually needs around RM 2,000–3,500 a month overall, less in shared housing and more in a private studio.
Student visa
You need a Student Pass issued through EMGS, even if you can visit Malaysia visa-free as a tourist. Taylor's files the application after you pay. EMGS officially takes 14 working days for a complete file; in practice, plan for 4–8 weeks. After the eVAL is approved, students from countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria get a Single Entry Visa through the official eVISA portal, applying from outside Malaysia.
