European University Cyprus (EUC): Fees, Programs and Admission for International Students
A private EU university in Nicosia with English-taught medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine. Here is what it costs and what it takes to get in.
European University Cyprus (EUC) is a private university in Nicosia, the capital of the Republic of Cyprus, an EU member state. It started in 1961 as Cyprus College and received university status from the Republic of Cyprus in 2007. International applicants mostly look at EUC for one reason: medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine taught fully in English inside the EU.
EUC suits you if you want an EU-accredited degree, have strong grades in biology and chemistry or math, and your family can cover €23,000 a year for medicine plus living costs. It is a good fit for business, IT and psychology students who want an English-taught bachelor's at a mid-range EU price.
It is not the right choice if you need a scholarship to make the numbers work, or if you are counting on a part-time job to pay rent. It is also not a shortcut into medicine: the grade bar is high and there is an interview.

Programs and the degree you receive
EUC has seven schools, but the English-taught programs that bring most international students are in health.
Medicine (MD). Six years, 360 ECTS, taught in English on the Nicosia campus. Clinical exposure starts in year one. Placements run in hospitals in Cyprus, Greece, Germany, the US and Tanzania. EUC states that the school meets all requirements for ECFMG certification, the route to US and Canadian licensing exams. According to the university, the MD was accredited by CYQAA in February 2020 through a procedure based on WFME standards.
Dentistry (BDS). Five years in English. The program uses simulation labs and a dental clinic on campus.
Veterinary Medicine (DVM). An English-taught option at €21,000 a year.
Bachelor's degrees. Business, IT, psychology and pharmacy sit in the €9,240 band; biomedical sciences and physiotherapy in the €10,980 band. Some programs, including nursing, law and education, are taught only in Greek. Always check the language of instruction for your exact program before you apply.
EUC's Frankfurt branch is a separate medical campus in Germany with its own fees and visa rules. This page covers Nicosia only.

Admission requirements for international students
The steps follow EUC's published rules; dates follow the pattern EUC uses each year.
How to apply to EUC
Check your grades. For medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine, EUC asks for an average of at least 90% in your school certificate, with biology plus one of chemistry, math or physics. For other bachelor's programs, you need completed secondary education.
Get an English certificate. EUC accepts IELTS Academic 6.5+, TOEFL iBT 79+, PTE Academic 66+, A-level English grade C+ or IB English A 5+. Non-EU students who need a visa and all dentistry applicants cannot use EUC's internal English test, so book an official exam early.
Prepare documents. Academic documents must be in English. Translations must be official and certified. Documents from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain need an apostille; documents from Nigeria, Egypt, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait need consular legalization.
Apply online. For health programs: application form, €200 fee, school certificate, an academic reference sent directly by your referee, and a motivation letter in English. Volunteer experience counts. Shortlisted applicants are invited to an interview.
Pay the deposit. After you receive an offer, non-EU students pay the €3,000 tuition deposit by bank transfer before the visa file goes in.
What to know before you apply
Better to know these before you pay the deposit than after.
Honest limitations
- No real scholarship route for international students. EUC's financial aid is "awarded to native students only", and medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine are excluded from scholarships. Budget for the full fee. The high school scholarships (25–75%) are written for graduates of Cypriot schools.
- Recognition at home is your responsibility to check. EUC's MD is accredited by CYQAA to WFME standards, and graduates can go for ECFMG certification. EUC does not publish recognition decisions for specific countries. If you plan to practice in India, Pakistan, Egypt, Nigeria or the Gulf, check your national medical council's current rules before you apply. We help you prepare that check.
- Work will not cover your costs. Cyprus allows students to work up to 20 hours a week during semesters and 38 hours during breaks, only in sectors approved by the Ministry of Labour, and each contract needs approval first. EUC's own FAQ adds that non-EU students can work only after six months from their first entry into Cyprus.
Rankings and accreditation
EUC is a private university accredited by CYQAA, the national quality agency of Cyprus. According to the university, it is placed in the 801+ band of the THE World University Rankings overall and in the 601+ band for medicine, dentistry and health. EUC also reports a QS Stars 5-star rating for its MD program.
For medicine, WFME-based accreditation and ECFMG eligibility matter more than rankings. Degree recognition in Cyprus is handled by KYSATS, the national ENIC-NARIC center.
Housing and student life
EUC's student residences are about 5 minutes on foot from the Engomi campus, and there are private apartments in the same area. According to EUC, rent runs about €600–1,000 per month, with other living costs of about €600–900 per month. You need a lease or proof of accommodation for your residence permit, so sort housing before you fly.
Student visa
Students from outside the EU need an entry permit before travel. The university, not the student, files the entry permit application with the Cypriot authorities. You cannot apply while in Cyprus on a tourist visa.
What EUC asks for in the visa file:
- passport valid for at least 2 years;
- English-language academic documents and proof of English at B2 or above;
- police clearance certificate issued within the last 6 months;
Other options
If EUC's grade bar or budget does not fit, compare it with nearby alternatives. The University of Nicosia charges €24,000 a year for its MD. UCLan Cyprus in Larnaca charges €9,000 a year for bachelor's programs. The public University of Cyprus and Cyprus University of Technology charge non-EU students €6,834 a year for bachelor's degrees, but undergraduate teaching is mostly in Greek.
