METU Northern Cyprus Campus (METU NCC) is not a local North Cyprus university. It is a campus of Middle East Technical University (METU, Ankara), a Turkish state university, and it follows the same academic rules and standards as the main campus. Graduates of METU Northern Cyprus receive a METU diploma signed by the METU rector and join the graduation ceremony in Ankara.
The campus is small, around 3,150 students according to the university, and focused on engineering plus a few business and social science programs. Tuition for international students is $9,450 a year, and competitive scholarships of 25% to 100% are available for strong SAT, ACT, IB or A-Level results.
It suits applicants who want an engineering degree from a Turkish state university, taught in English, with a clear diploma status. It does not suit students who want medicine, dentistry or pharmacy (the campus has none), or those looking for the lowest possible tuition in North Cyprus.

Tuition fees at METU NCC
Undergraduate tuition for the international quota is $9,450 a year for first-year students under the current price list. On top of tuition, every student pays a $500 registration fee each semester. It can be paid in two parts and covers documents, exams, the student ID, the diploma and the campus health center. The university invoices in US dollars.
The price list for the next academic year is not published yet. Budget using the current figures and expect them to change. The reduced rate of $6,300 a year is not a general discount: it applies only to one child of METU campus staff, children of METU graduates, and siblings of current undergraduates.

Scholarships and the exam scores behind them
Scholarships cut tuition by 25% to 100% and are awarded on academic results. Places are limited, so meeting a threshold does not guarantee an award. The scholarship page is labeled with the previous academic year, but its base price matches the current fee. The university also accepts A-Level, BTEC and AP results for scholarships.

The $500 registration fee per semester applies at every scholarship level. To keep a scholarship, you need a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00; on academic probation it is suspended. Students in the English prep program need a score of 50 or more to keep it. Separate merit scholarships (for a GPA of 3.50 or higher) and need-based support scholarships also exist. Students can add one of 12 minors, including Data Science, Information Systems, Mechatronics, Renewable Energy and Engineering Management. The university's general information page mentions 15 undergraduate and 5 master's programs, while the program list shows 11 bachelor's degrees. We confirm the current intake list for your program before you apply.
Teaching is in English, as at METU in Ankara. Applicants need proof of English or must take the English Preparatory Program first.
The degree is the main difference from other universities in North Cyprus. You graduate with a METU diploma, issued by a Turkish state university, not by a North Cyprus institution. That means it should go through the usual process for Turkish documents, including an apostille in Turkey, rather than the special legalization route used for diplomas of local North Cyprus universities.
Admission requirements for international students
METU NCC sets minimum grades by the country where you finished secondary school. Each country has its own criteria page, and the university states that meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission. How to apply to METU NCC

Check the criteria for your school system. Find the page for the country where you completed secondary school (Pakistan, Nigeria, India, Egypt, a GCC country and so on) and compare your grades with the minimums.

Decide on international exams. The university accepts all major international exams, including SAT, ACT, IB and A-Level. Scholarships are awarded on these results, so a strong SAT or IB score can lower your tuition significantly.

Prove your English. To skip the prep program, the published minimums are TOEFL iBT 75, IELTS 6.0 or PTE 55, with results valid for 2 years. Teaching English as a Foreign Language requires more: TOEFL iBT 86, IELTS 7.0 or PTE 65. Without a certificate, you take the METU English Proficiency Exam on campus or join the prep program.

Prepare your documents. Usually this means your secondary school certificate and transcripts, your passport and your English certificate. Translation and certification requirements depend on your country.

What to know before you apply to METU Northern Cyprus
North Cyprus (the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) is recognized only by Turkey. Diplomas from local North Cyprus universities are not recognized automatically in the EU and not recognized at all in the Republic of Cyprus. METU NCC is different because the diploma comes from METU in Ankara. Still, recognition in your home country is decided by your country's authority, case by case. Honest limitations and how to handle them
- No medical programs. There is no medicine, dentistry or pharmacy at METU NCC. If you plan a medical career, compare Eastern Mediterranean University or Near East University.
- Higher sticker price. Most programs at other North Cyprus universities cost roughly $4,500–6,500 a year after their standard discounts. At METU NCC, the price drops to that level only with a scholarship, and scholarships depend on exam scores.
- The $6,300 rate is not for everyone. It covers only children of METU staff or graduates and siblings of current students. Do not budget with it unless you qualify.
Rankings and accreditation
The key status fact is the campus's link to METU. METU NCC is attached to METU in all academic and administrative matters and applies the same standards as the Ankara campus. All graduates receive a Europass Diploma Supplement, according to the university.
Program accreditation is available for part of the engineering portfolio. On October 19, 2021, ABET's Engineering Accreditation Commission accredited several METU NCC bachelor's programs, including Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Computer and Civil Engineering. Aerospace, Industrial and Software Engineering were not on that list. Program accreditation helps with individual evaluation by employers and universities, but it is not the same as state recognition. Housing and student life
On-campus dormitories cost $1,429.50–2,962.50 per semester, depending on the building and the number of beds in the room. There is also a one-time refundable deposit of $200. These figures come from the university's previous-year page; current rates may differ.
The campus sits in the Güzelyurt (Morphou) area, 5 km from the town. It has laboratories, a library, a sports complex and a Culture and Convention Center. With about 3,150 students from 46+ countries, it is a quiet, study-focused campus rather than a big-city experience.

Student visa and residence permit
Most students reach North Cyprus through airports in Turkey, since direct flights to Ercan operate mainly from Turkey. Check early whether you need a Turkish visa for your connection. North Cyprus introduced an e-Visa on August 24, 2026. According to published reports, Nigerian citizens must get the e-Visa before travel, while most other nationalities receive a visa on arrival.
Every international degree student needs a student residence permit. You apply online through the immigration department's system, reportedly within 30 days of entry. Then you pass a medical check at an authorized clinic in North Cyprus and pay the fees online. Universities report each student's status to the immigration system every three months, and withdrawal from studies cancels the permit.
