MBBS in Georgia Fees and the Full Cost of Studying in Georgia
Tuition by university, rent and daily costs in Tbilisi and Batumi, and the visa, permit and insurance costs every student has to pay.
MBBS in Georgia fees for international students are about $5,900–8,000 a year in tuition at the five universities we checked. The Georgian medical degree is a 6-year MD, so tuition alone comes to roughly $35,400–48,000 for the full program at current prices.
Tuition is only part of the bill. Every student also pays for housing and daily life, a D3 study visa (for applicants from India, Pakistan, Nigeria and Egypt), a residence permit and health insurance. This page puts all of these costs in one place, with the source and date for each number.
A note on dates. No university has published prices for the next intake yet. The figures below are the current prices shown on each university's website, unless noted otherwise. Universities set fees for each new academic year, so confirm the final number before you pay.

MBBS in Georgia fees by university
The Georgian MD takes 6 years (360 ECTS), and the internship is built into the 6th year. Here is what the main universities charge international students for medicine and dentistry taught in English.

A few details change the real price:
- TSMU's American MD program costs $13,500 a year, much more than its standard English-medium MD.
- SEU's figures come from its most recent published price list. Treat them as an estimate for later intakes.
- Payment rules differ. At UG, you pay part of the fee to get the invitation for your visa, then the full first year after you arrive and before you sign the contract. From the second year, UG allows installments. TSU takes either a full year in advance or two equal payments at the start of each semester.

Cost of studying in Georgia outside medicine
For non-medical degrees taught in English, the cost of studying in Georgia at private universities in Tbilisi starts from about $4,000 a year. Only the University of Georgia publishes its full price list, so we use it as the reference.

Health-related programs outside the MD are cheaper. TSMU charges $3,500 a year for Pharmacy in English and $3,000 for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. SEU lists Nursing at $3,500 (latest published price list).
TSU publishes one flat fee for all programs, but that rate is for Georgian citizens. It does not apply to international students. For TSU's non-medical programs in English, we request the current price directly from the university.

One-time costs: admission, visa and residence permit
These fees come on top of tuition. Most are small, but they add up, and several have faster options that cost more.
What you pay, in order
Application fee — UG charges $170. It is waived if you provide your own Georgian translations and the NCEQE receipt. Other universities did not publish an application fee.
Recognition of your school certificate by NCEQE (Georgia's education quality agency) — 40 GEL for 1 month, 80 GEL for 15 working days, 120 GEL for 5 working days, 250 GEL for 1 working day.
Enrollment without Georgian national exams, also through NCEQE — 30 GEL for 1 month or 60 GEL for 15 working days. After this, the Ministry of Education issues the order that admits you.
Notarized translations into Georgian — every foreign-language document submitted to NCEQE needs one. Indian applicants also need MEA apostilles on all education documents for the visa.
D3 study visa — a 20 USD consular fee, plus the VFS Global service fee if you apply through VFS (as in India).
Citizens of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman can enter Georgia visa-free for one year. They skip the D3 visa and apply for the student residence permit inside the country. Living costs in Tbilisi and Batumi
Most medical universities are in Tbilisi. Batumi, on the Black Sea coast, is somewhat cheaper. The numbers below come from Numbeo, a crowdsourced cost-of-living database.

Read these as an upper estimate. Numbeo reflects the spending of an average expat. A student who shares an apartment, rents a room or lives in a dormitory spends noticeably less.
Dormitory options are limited. TSU has the Lisi dormitory with 320 places; according to TSU pages, a place costs about 150 GEL a month, but a place for the full degree is not guaranteed. The University of Georgia has no dormitory yet and offers help with temporary housing on request.
Sample first-year budget
Here is how a first year of an English-medium MD in Tbilisi adds up. Tuition is in USD and local costs are in GEL, as each source publishes them.

At Numbeo's expat level, rent plus living costs come to about 2,893 GEL a month, or roughly 34,700 GEL for 12 months. Sharing housing is the main way students bring this figure down.
Two costs have no fixed number. Health insurance is required: the D3 checklist asks for a policy covering the whole visa period, and UG asks for a policy within a month of signing the contract, renewed every year. We recommend a policy for your entire stay. The residence permit requires proof of funds of at least two subsistence minimums per month for the permit period. Georgia's subsistence minimum changes monthly, so we calculate the exact amount at the time you apply.
Do not count on part-time work to cover these costs. Since 1 March 2026, a foreigner needs a separate work authorization to work for a Georgian employer, and a student residence permit alone does not give the right to work. Plan your budget without income from work in Georgia.
What to know before you apply
- Independent practice in Georgia requires Georgian. After the MD, graduates get junior doctor status, which means working under the responsibility of an independent doctor, not practicing alone. Georgian law makes knowledge of Georgian mandatory for independent medical practice, and all residency programs at TSMU are taught only in Georgian. Most international graduates build their career through licensing exams at home or in a third country.
- Patients speak Georgian. Teaching is in English, but universities include Georgian language courses so students can talk to patients during clinical training. Budget time for the language, not only money.
- WFME recognition has an end date. NCEQE, Georgia's accrediting agency, is recognized by WFME until November 2028. A student starting now graduates later than that. Renewal will be decided later, and no one can guarantee it in advance. Note that WFME recognizes the agency, not individual universities.
