University of Georgia Tbilisi: MD, IT and Business Degrees in English

University of Georgia Tbilisi (UG) is a private university that teaches bachelor's, master's and PhD programs in English and Georgian. International applicants know it mainly for its six-year Medicine (MD) program, but UG also offers English-taught degrees in computing, engineering, business, pharmacy and nursing. Admission is open year-round, with fall and spring intakes, and foreigners do not sit Georgia's national entrance exams.
UG suits you if you want an English-taught MD at a private university with a clear price list, or an IT or business bachelor's for $4,000–5,000 a year. It is a weaker fit if you need a guaranteed dormitory: university housing is still under construction. It is also the wrong plan if you want to practice medicine independently in Georgia without learning Georgian, because Georgian law requires it.

UG publishes fees in US dollars, and English-taught programs cost $4,000–6,500 a year. The price list on ug.edu.ge does not name an academic year, so the figures below are UG's current fees, read as annual. UG has not published next year's fees; we confirm the fee for your program before you pay.

How payment works at UG
- First year up front. Part of the fee pays for the visa invitation; the rest of the first year is due on arrival, before the contract. Installments start from the second year.
- Application fee: $170. Waived if you provide the Georgian translation of your documents plus the NCEQE receipt for 250 GEL.
- Health insurance is extra. Show a policy within one month of the contract and renew it yearly.

Programs and the degree you receive
UG teaches in English at every level, from bachelor's to PhD. Medicine (MD) and Dentistry are one-cycle programs at the School of Health Sciences.
In Georgia, the MD lasts 6 years (360 ECTS) and includes the internship. Clinical rotations take the last three semesters, and the sixth year is fully clinical. Georgian language courses are part of the curriculum, because patients speak Georgian. An MD graduate becomes a junior doctor in Georgia, a status without the right to independent practice.

Admission requirements for international students
Foreigners skip Georgia's national exams. The university accepts you, NCEQE (the education quality center) recognizes your school certificate, and the Ministry of Education issues an enrollment order.
How to apply to UG

Check eligibility. UG does not publish minimum grades by curriculum, so we check your transcript against the program first. Indian citizens applying for MD must qualify NEET: NMC requires it, and the D3 visa checklist in India lists it for MBBS students.

Collect documents: passport, school certificate (bachelor's diploma for master's), a 2-minute video about yourself, a 3×4 photo and the application fee receipt. UG's FAQ also mentions a transcript and a medical application.

Certify documents. India, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia use an apostille (an MEA apostille for Indian education documents). Egypt, Nigeria, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman need consular legalization. NCEQE needs a notarized Georgian translation of every foreign document.

Wait for Ministry confirmation: 3–4 weeks, according to UG. NCEQE recognition takes about 3 weeks, then the minister's order follows within 2 weeks. Faster recognition costs more: from 40 GEL for 1 month to 250 GEL for 1 working day.
UG accepts applications year-round and says there is no admission deadline. UG publishes exact intake dates closer to each intake. As a rough guide, start 2–3 months before your semester. There is no age limit, though UG asks applicants over 30 to consult it first.
What to know before you apply
These limits affect UG applicants most, and each has a practical fix.
Risks and how to handle them
- No dormitory. University housing is under construction. UG offers temporary housing support on request and an accommodation letter for the visa. We help you find a rental before you fly.
- Full first year before the contract. If your visa is refused, UG states that "paid tuition fees will be refunded upon request", without mentioning deductions. We clarify this with UG in writing before you pay.
- NMC decides MD recognition in India. NMC's 2021 rules require at least 54 months of study plus a 12-month internship at the same university, among other conditions. In Georgia, the internship sits inside the 6 years. Georgia's Ministry of Education states that its MD complies with NMC rules, but that is the Georgian side's position. Rankings and accreditation
We do not quote rankings for UG: the ranking claims on its website are undated, and we could not verify them.
In Georgia, NCEQE accredits and authorizes MD programs, and NCEQE is recognized by WFME until November 2028. WFME recognizes agencies, not universities, so "WFME-recognized university" or "WHO-recognized degree" is inaccurate for any Georgian school. Treat "NMC approved" claims with the same caution: NMC replaced the Medical Council of India in 2020 and keeps no list of approved foreign universities. Housing and student life
UG has no dormitory, so international students rent apartments or rooms in Tbilisi. According to Numbeo, a one-bedroom apartment costs about 1,746 GEL a month in the center and about 1,163 GEL outside it. One person's expenses without rent average about 1,730 GEL a month. These are expat-level figures; a student sharing a flat usually spends noticeably less. A monthly transport pass costs 40 GEL.
Local and international students study together across UG's six schools. Health insurance is compulsory for the whole program.
Student visa
Citizens of India, Pakistan, Nigeria and Egypt need a D3 study visa. You apply online at geoconsul.gov.ge; in India, documents go through VFS Global. The consular fee is $20, plus the VFS service fee. The checklist includes the Ministry of Education order, UG's enrollment order, proof of housing, insurance and NEET for MBBS applicants. There is no fixed amount of money: you show a 3-month bank statement or a sponsor's affidavit, ID, statement and salary letter.
GCC citizens enter visa-free for one year and apply for a student residence permit in Georgia (300–600 GEL, depending on speed), at least 40 days before their legal stay ends. UAE residents with a valid UAE residence permit can enter visa-free for 90 days in any 180 days. UG helps with the residence permit on request. Full details are on our Georgia student visa page.
